Dual MBA/MS Degree Application
Are you a current MBA student thinking about how to distinguish yourself in the current job market?
Are you aware that by taking only four additional courses, you can earn a second Masters degree?
Did you know that there is an option of a Dual MBA/MS degree within Smith?
Application Deadline is May 23, 2008
What is the MBA/MS Program?
The dual MBA/MS program is designed to enable students to gain broad management skills and knowledge while developing an in-depth understanding of a particular business area. Students earn two Master’s level degrees, the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Science in Business and Management (no area of specialization listed on diploma). The MBA is a general degree in Business Administration (the Smith School does not have official concentrations). The MS in Business and Management is a specialized degree with a focus in a particular field of study.
Both degrees are awarded simultaneously upon completion of the full 66 required credits (12 credits beyond the 54 credits required for the MBA alone). Students may focus their MS study in either
Finance or
Logistics & Transportation. The dual MBA/MS program typically takes 2.5 years to complete as a full-time student and 3.5 years to complete as an evening or weekend student.

Application Deadline* and Decision Notification
Applications are accepted once a year.
The deadline to apply for admission to the dual degree program is Friday, May 23, 2008. Please note, only complete applications will be reviewed for admission. Incomplete applications received after this date will not be reviewed. Decision notification will be by e-mail unless other arrangements are made in advance and will occur the first week of June (on or before June 6, 2008).
*NOTE: Summer 08 and Fall 08 registration take place prior to the application deadline. Students who are applying to the dual degree should plan their courses according to the MS requirements. Based on an admit or deny decision, students may adjust their schedules if they so choose.
General Information
As mentioned above, typically the joint MBA/MS program takes 2½ years to complete as a full-time student and 3½ years to complete as an evening or weekend student. Some students choose to accelerate this process (i.e. students frequently take summer and winter courses or might look for ways to take an additional course in a regular semester). While flexibility can be granted in terms of when the courses are taken, no full-time student will be permitted to exceed 18 credits per semester and no evening or weekend student will be permitted to exceed 10 credits per semester. Please take this information into consideration as you explore this option because these limits may impact any plan you design. The MS program does not require a thesis, but students may write one in place of elective credit (six of the 66 credits required for the degree).
If you have any questions related to the dual degree, please contact your campus administrator.
